ZOOS: ENDANGERED SPECIES
Adelaide Zoo was opened in 1883. It occupies a tranquil setting only minutes from the centre of Adelaide and bounded by the Botanic Park and the River Torrens. The Adelaide Zoo is administered by the Royal Zoological Society of South Australia, and has achieved a blend of old and new in its heritage buildings, lush garden settings and newly developed exhibits of both indigenous and exotic species. Like all Australian zoos, it is committed to the preservation of endangered species.
